Until Sunday, I firmly believed that awards and recognition were things that did not mean much to me as I knew that I always give my most at work. (This is not applicable to personal life as I am very lazy). But sometimes it does get into your head that maybe you are not as good as you believe you are.
In March, I was asked if I would like to move departments as my services were more needed there. I took the job as it was a new challenge and would give me something to learn. But sometimes I thought I was asked to go as I might not have been good at what I was doing and people were not happy with the way I ran the department.
Now, on Sunday, I was awarded the 'future leader of the year award for the 2006/07' for my hotel. It was according to me a great achievement. And, I guess by getting the award, I cannot doubt the management for moving me to another department and what they said then.
So this whole episode has taught me somethings, namely,
a) Regonition does motivate people
b) I am not all a saint that I potray to be... as Maria Sharapova puts it, "You cannot be a tennis player and Mother Teresa at the same time."
